mistake? or continuing education…
Oops.
I tried a new paint on my wood art yesterday. And she doesn’t cut it. Hard to manipulate, too loose to keep her shape, a bit oozy (yes, that is a technical term. Isn’t it?). What can I say? I like my paints THICK.
As a self-taught artist, I find myself stumbling a lot. I don’t know much about mediums and color mixing. A probably a hundred other things. So there’s a lot of trial and error that happens, both in the wood shop and the painting studio. I do a good bit of interweb searching. And try to hype myself up to be brave and ask other artist questions (#introvertproblems).
I try to remind myself I’m not wasting money if I mess something up. I’m just spending a bit of what I would have spent on art school. So a flop is just “continuing education.” (wink)
Learning is always a good thing.
I bet you’ve had some continuing education (i.e. learning flops) now and then. Maybe a recipe that you experimented on and it didn’t turn out as you hoped. Or a new plant purchase that turned out to be far too fussy and keeled over on you. Maybe even your own art mishap.
It’s okay, friend. You’re just learning. Just imagine the cost of those supplies as substitute for a class. Cuz I know you learned plenty from that mistake!
